Did you ever fancy a bit of the country in the city? Then welcome to the Jugged Hare!
This is a post I have been eager to write for sometime. My fiancé and i first heard of The Jugged Hare during their ‘Goatober’ festival (encouraging the use of Goat meat as a everyday meat on menus) and us being the country folk we are, we were keen to try their game heavy menu.
You will love the lively city atmosphere with a traditional country twist!
Very pretty, Gastro style interiors with a great wine list and an ever changing menu.
We were welcomed with a glass of champagne while we mulled over the menu.
It all looked incredible so we were thankful the manager came over with some recommendations!
We shared Black Pudding Croquettes with Guinness sauce (You’ll want to try these!).
Followed by Quail for me and Scallops for him.
Washed down with some Gavi.
Followed by Goat shoulder served with fermented wheat, broccoli and a anchovy and almond sauce.
and a ‘Tomapork’
I thought the goat shoulder was delicious! I have never had fermented wheat before and loved the texture. The goat itself was melt in the mouth!
The Tomapork was equally pleasing, lovely and moist without being underdone.
We were full to the brim! But managed the Hot chocolate cake, honeycomb, crème fraîche ice cream to share.
I wasn’t blown away by this, but we polished it off all the same.
As the menu constantly changes depending on the season (not to mention their ‘special’ evenings and curry nights! Check out whats on here), we will definitely be back! I need to try that Jugged Hare!
If you can grab a couple of friends to join you, why not order this bad boy and settle down in the ‘Josephine private dining room’? (Vegetarians will want to look away now…)
Check out that wine rack!!
The Jugged Hare can be found at 49 Chiswell St, London EC1Y 4SA (Barbican) and you can book online through their website here: www.thejuggedhare.com
Same time next week?
