The Galapagos Islands has been on the top of my list of places to travel since before i can remember!
My boyfriend and i were looking for somewhere further afield to travel to this summer for more of an adventure holiday. Our birthdays are close together and we wanted to celebrate the fact. So when we came across the Galapagos Express Camping Adventure through G-Adventures we knew we had found ‘the one’.
All it would take to get there is a 3 flights, 2 taxis a ferry and a bus in 22 hours….
We organised travel ourselves through Avianca from London Heathrow stopping for a few hours in Bogota and Guayaquil before finally arriving at Baltra Airport on the Galapagos 22 hours later! We left on the Friday night and arrived Saturday at 11am. We were knackered but our trip was due to start on Sunday Midday, giving us time to explore our surroundings and our starting point, Puerto Ayora!
We were literally the first people off the plane and rushed over to passport to control to get our passport stamps!
We whisked ourselves through security and paid the $100USD Galapagos entrance fee in Baltra. Before we knew it we were on our way on the free bus that takes you from Baltra airport to the Ferry port that would take us to Santa Cruz island.
The ferry was an experience alone! The locals grab your bags and place them on top of the boat whilst everyone else sits below, all in all its less than a 10 minute ride but it is also a first chance to experience the wildlife.
This is followed by a 30 minute taxi ride into Puerto Ayora.
We stayed central at The Pearl B&B. We arrived Jet-lagged, hot and in need of refreshment! That is when the lovely Yolanda welcomed us (along with ‘Princess’ the cat) with 2 ice cold beers (on the house)!
After a quick change and shower we headed out to explore….
A few minutes walk later we came across the fish market and some locals!
It was confirmed, this was going to be the adventure holiday we dream of!
