Staying at Lemala Kuria Hills – Northern Serengeti

Lemala Kuria Hills

If you haven’t yet, grab a cuppa and check out my other posts in this series on Tanzania – Arusha & The Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara to Kogatende

I have to say, our first trip to The Serengeti couldn’t have started any better and the Lemala Kuria Hills hospitality began the moment we stepped off our flight.

We had opted to stay at Lemala Kuria Hills purely from how amazing the photos looked and it’s proximity to the Mara River (perfect for viewing the Wildebeest Migration).

It did not disappoint.

A spread of tea, fruit and biscuits were unveiled for us the moment we stepped off the plane (which was handy, we we’re starving!). In the meantime, our guide sorted our permits and before long we were on a mini safari headed towards Kuria Hills.

It was only a short drive (45 minutes) to the lodge.

Daniel was there to welcome us and offered us a Ndovu (a local Tanzanian beer). He asked if we had any dietary requirements and which drinks we would like stocked in our fridge in our lodge (beer, gin).

Lemala Kuria Hills features a main tent (with bar area, restaurant, reception and toilets) and 15 tented suites and it never feels crowded.

The accommodations are HUGE and far away from prying eyes. Utterly peaceful with 2 showers, a plunge pool, and bath with views overlooking the Serengeti.  Just the place we needed to unwind after a day on Safari. It’s perfect for those of us who love the idea of disconnecting but don’t actually want to go for days without electricity.

Every evening we would have a cute note/ gift/ towel origami to greet us.

The food here is amazing and the best we had in Tanzania. All meals and non-premium alcoholic drinks are included in the cost. A safari is a large upfront expense yet, you only really need to bring money for tipping and souvenirs.

Picnic Lunches in the bush were better than anything i could have expected and our guide (Assan) always ensured our fridge was stocked full of beers and soft drinks for our drives.

In the evenings you can eat around the campfire (very romantic for us honeymooners).

After dinner (and a few Konyagi’s in the bar area), the friendly folks at the lodge will take you back to your tent. We discovered small herds of Buffalo waiting outside our room each night so we were very grateful to have someone with us who knew what they were doing.

Listening to the wildlife outside each night was incredibly exciting! We didn’t want to sleep really!

Game drives with Assan were the best of our whole trip. We managed to see 4 Wildebeest crossings (more on this in a future blog post). It was advised that we may have to share our drives but this never happened.

The icing on the cake was when Daniel invited us for our own private sun downers for our final evening.

It goes without saying that this was the most incredible place we have ever stayed and we were so sad to leave. We will most definitely be returning (partly because we didn’t get to try out the gorgeous infinity pool)!
